Value-based Routing (cars, vans and trucks) Cost-based route planning via REST API Route planning might seem like a solved problem — getting from A to B. Value-based Routing is a novel approach. While consumer applications allow planning for the shortest distance or fastest route, the commercial environment works differently. It's about costs! Value-based routing uses cost factors that can vary for every combination of vehicle, driver and trailer, and evaluates routes based on cost rather than minimizing distance. Two-person crews, 3.5t or 40t with tolls, hazardous goods, night driving restrictions — all are taken into account differently and result in entirely different routes. Calculating the ETA, and therefore the travel time, is one of the most challenging aspects of route planning. For this, we use our proprietary Artificial Intelligence model, which learns from traffic flow data and can accurately estimate travel times — especially important when route planning is done not for "right now" but for a future point in time; even systems planned just a few hours ahead render purely "live traffic"-based systems useless.
